It's been a while since we've had dream weather like this on one of our summer trips. The lack of wind isn't a dream for sailing, but why sail when you can chill out in an anchorage bay... After a reasonably windy and cloudy initial stretch under main and genoa, we glide motor-driven over a glassy Kattegatt thanks to our Yanmar and, after 21 nautical miles, retreat into the tangle of skerries where the privateer Lars Gathenhielm (1689-1718) found refuge with his “Lilla Jägaren”. From here, under the protection of the Swedish crown, he raided Danish and Russian ships – and occasionally Swedish ones too, if no others happened to be passing by.
