An intermediate high pressure system brings us easterly winds. With a storm already lurking in the southwest, it is high time we left Finland and head for Åland.
We land on Kökar, a group of islands populated by 240 Swedish-speaking Ålanders. Sandviken jetty in the north promises good protection against the impending storm from the south. The harbour master doesn’t talk much, but helps us moor SY Blue Layla to a second buoy; U. later jumps into the water to give the same assistance to a German yacht that has just arrived from Gotland. Now the wind doesn’t bother us and we can explore the island.
