We leave the island of Læsø (see below) to complete our Kattegat crossing and sail to Saeby on Jutland, affectionately known by the locals today as “Soaptown” (sæbe = soap) – the above are, however, not bars of soap, but painted pebbles waiting for buyers at the roadside in Saeby. A beautiful old town with a fantastic late medieval monastery church, whose lime paintings were whitewashed over during the Reformation and now shine in their former splendour (see further below). Unfortunately, the persistent southerly wind – blowing at just under 20 knots today – is giving us a headache when it comes to planning the rest of the trip and we are hoping for at least a drop in wind speed and perhaps for a more westerly breeze so that we can make our way south over the next few days.
