Plenty of wind pushes us to the next island, Degerö. However, due to the coverage of the many islands, the waves remain tame. We moor in the town centre of Degerby, the former capital of Åland, which in the 1920s still had more inhabitants than the present capital city Mariehamn (founded in 1861). Invariably, we have to dodge numerous larger and smaller ferries in the narrow archipelago fairways to get there in one piece.
